Eight: Commander A. C. Ackland, Royal Navy, a King’s Messenger

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith (Mid., R.N., H.M.S. Terrible); China 1900, 1 clasp, Relief of Pekin (Midsn., R.N., H.M.S. Terrible); 1914-15 Star (Lt. Commr., R.N.); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oak leaf (Commr. R.N.); 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; War Medal 1939-45, surname spelt ‘Acland’ on Q.S.A., mounted as worn; together with King’s Messenger Badge, oval gilt and enamel lapel badge, ‘On Special Service 1920’, badge rev. inscribed, ‘King’s Messenger No. 12’, with pendant silver greyhound, badge with slight enamel damage, otherwise good very fine and better (9) £1200-1400

Midshipman A. C. Ackland served in Captain Jones’ Naval Brigade in Natal, 1899-1900 and with the Naval Brigade in China 1900. During 1910-13 he was seconded for service in Northern Nigeria. He retired from the service on 1 October 1913.
