Three: Gunner T. Rae, Royal Artillery, late 7th Hussars

Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow (7th Husrs.), claw tightened; India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, North West Frontier (1363 Pte., 7th Huss.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue (480 Gunnr., 1st Dn. D.B. R.A.), slight edge bruising, very fine and better (3) £500-600

Thomas Rae was born in Dumfrieshire and was a Servant by occupation. Enlisting into the 7th Hussars, he served in the Indian Mutinty; ‘serving in the field in Oude, East Indies, from 4 February 1858 to 1st October 1858, including the siege of Lucknow from 2-16 March’. With the 7th Hussars he served in Colonel A. F. Macdonell’s expedition on the North West Frontier, 5 December 1863-2 January 1864, including the action at Shabkadar. Having served 12 years in the 7th Hussars, Rae transferred to or re-enlisted into the Royal Artillery on 18 April 1866. With them he served in Australia and Ceylon, being discharged on 2 December 1875. Sold with some copied service papers (R.A.) and confirmation of all medals and clasps.
