Ashantee 1873-74, no clasp (Surgn. J. Williamson, M.B., 1873-4) naming engraved in larger than usual capitals, possibly a later issue, edge bruise, very fine £180-220

James Williamson was born in Aberdeen on 31 May 1845. After qualifying as a M.B. at Aberdeen in 1866, he was appointed a Surgeon in the Army Medical Department on 2 October 1866. He served in the Ashantee War of 1873-74 and attained the rank of Surgeon Colonel in September 1896. He gained the F.R.C.S.I. in 1890; he died at Lucknow on 21 June 1898.
