Ghuznee 1839, unnamed as issued, with replacement swivel ring and straight bar suspension, with silver buckle on ribbon; Punjab 1848-49, 1 clasp, Goojerat (Surgn., 53rd Foot) minor contact marks, very fine (2) £800-1000

Nelson Dartnell was born in Clare, Ireland on 25 February 1807. Appointed a Staff Assistant Surgeon on 4 December 1832, he was posted to the 41st Foot on 18 January 1833, the 4th Dragoons on 3 August 1838 and 3rd Dragoons on 21 August 1840. Appointed Surgeon to the 4th Foot on 19 January 1844, he transferred to the 53rd Foot on 11 October 1847. Surgeon Dartnell died in Calcutta on 17 February 1857. Sold with copied ‘Statement of Services’ which confirms the two medals.
