Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Corunna (G. A. Morewood, M.D. Phyn. to the Forces) contained in its named card box of issue together with Horse Guards forwarding letter dated 28 November 1849, edge bruise, otherwise about extremely fine £1000-1200

George Alexander Morewood was born on 27 January 1780. He qualified as M.A at Glasgow in 1802, and as M.D. in 1806. After serving as Surgeon to the Warwickshire Yeomanry, he was appointed Physician to the Forces on 7 September 1807. He served with General Beresford’s expedition to Madeira and occupation of that island; the campaign in Spain and at Corunna under Sir John Moore, 1808-09; in the Walcheren expedition in 1809; with the army of Sir John Stewart in Sicily, with Lord Wellington in the Peninsula, including the siege of Badajoz (clasp disallowed); and during the last year of the war in North America in 1813. Doctor Morewood died at Bath on 24 September 1859.
