Three: Private F. Mills, Grenadier Guards

1914 Star, with clasp (121783 Pte., 2/G. Gds.); British War and Victory Medals (12783 Pte., G. Gds.), mounted as worn, slight contact marks, very fine (3) £180-220

Frederick Mills was born in Aldsworth, Northleach, Gloucestershire on 6 March 1882. A labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the Grenadier Guards at Cirencester on 16 July 1906. With the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. Later in the war, being badly wounded, his left leg was amputated. He was discharged as ‘being no longer physically fit for war service’ on 15 November 1916. Sold with original Certificate of Discharge and Character Certificate and copied m.i.c., the latter showing his entitlement to both clasp and Silver War Badge.
