Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (2662 Drum. Majr. P. Butler, 33rd Foot) very fine £120-160

Philip Butler was born in Liverpool and attested for service in the 33rd Regiment at Edinburgh on 29 October 1851, aged 14 years. Promoted to Corporal in February 1863, he attained the rank of Drum Major in March the same year. He served overseas in Mauritius and the East Indies and was awarded a medal for active service in Abyssinia 1867-68. He was discharged at his own request on 22 August 1876 having completed his second period of engagement. Sold with copied service papers.
