Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Delhi, Relief of Lucknow (John Condrin, 75th Regt.) obverse with traces of corrosion / fire-damage, thus good fine £300-350

John Condrin, who was born in Tipperary in 1837, enrolled in the Galway (County) Militia in February 1855 prior to transferring to the 75th Regiment in June of the same year. A little over a month later he was tried by Court Martial for being absent without leave, but his subsequent period of confinement was short-lived, for he was embarked for service in the East Indies. Active service in the Indian Mutiny followed, when he was present at the Delhi and relief of Lucknow operations and wounded in the left foot at Badli-ke-Seral on 8 June 1857. Condrin was discharged as ‘unfit for further service’ in April 1863, his assorted ailments leaving him unable ‘to contribute but little towards his livelihood’. Notwithstanding his poor health, Condrin’s discharge papers state ‘this man removed to U.S. America’.
