Pair: Sergeant T. M. Price, Monmouthshire Regiment

1914 Star
(2482 Sjt., 1/2 Mon. R.); Victory Medal 1914-19 (2482 Sjt., Monmouth. R.), the first with overall scratching to reverse from attempted erasure, generally very fine (2) £40-60

Thomas M. Price, who was born at Ebbw Vale, enlisted in the 2nd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment at Pontypool in September 1914, aged 40 years, and went out to France in the following month. Interestingly, he appears to have been among those selected for special mining operations under Captain Edwards, M.C., or certainly according to an enclosure in his original ‘Soldier’s Small Book’ (included with Lot). His MIC entry further reveals that he was the recipient of a Silver War Badge; also sold with a colour picture postcard entitled ‘Hommage aux Allies’, this with handwritten inscription and signed ‘Tom’.
