Ex Baldwins 1942.

Edward Porter was born in the Parish of St. Martin’s, Hereford. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the 48th Foot for unlimited service on 10 February 1798, aged 18 years. In the Muster Rolls a ‘Corporal Edward Porter’ is listed as having ‘died’ on 18 September 1809 - if this is the same man as the medal recipient then this may infer that he had been hospitalized following the battle of Talavera in July of that year. If the same man, and making a remarkable recovery, he was present at the battle of Albuhera, 16 May 1811, where he was again presumably wounded as the Muster Roll for June records him as ‘sick and absent’. Porter was discharged on 22 February 1819 as a consequence of ‘being worn out & wounded’. Clasps confirmed; surname given as ‘Potter’ on the Foster roll. Sold with copied discharge papers and other research.
