765 medals to this regiment, comprising 170 for the 2nd Kaffir War 1846-47, 434 for the 3rd Kaffir War 1850-53, and 161 to those who fought in both the 2nd and 3rd Kaffir Wars.

John Float was born in the Parish of Storry, near Canterbury, Kent, and attested for the Rifle Brigade at Dover on 15 October 1832, aged 19 years 2 months. He served abroad in North America, 1 year 2 months, in Malta & the Ionian Islands, 5 years 7 months, and at the Cape of Good Hope, 3 years 7 months, including service during the Kaffir War of 1846-47. He was discharged at Dover, being unfit for further service, on 7 October 1853. Sold with copy discharge papers.
