Herbert Soley (or Solley) was born in St. Andrew’s, Guernsey on 10 April 1895. A quarryman by occupation, he enlisted into the Guernsey Light Infantry at St. Peter Port on 10 October 1913 as Private No.2559 in the 1st Battalion. He was transferred to the 6th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment on 10 February 1915 and entered France with them on 18 December 1915. Soley was wounded at Drouvin on 14 January 1916 and again at Guillemont on 3 September 1916. He was discharged from hospital on 7 January 1917 and was transferred back to the 1st Battalion Royal Guernsey Light Infantry. He was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 12 April 1918. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial. Sold with copied research.
