Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., 1st issue (KX. 78670 V. A. Waldeck, S.P.O., H.M.S. Berwick) nearly extremely fine £60-80

Victor Alexander Waldeck was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in September 1942.

The cruiser H.M.S.
Berwick won Battle Honours for “Atlantic 1939”, “Norway 1940”, “Spartivento 1940” and “Arctic 1941-44”. At Spartivento, she had the misfortune of being the only ship to be hit as the Italians ran for home, seven of her crew being killed and another nine wounded. Less than a month later, on Christmas Day 1940, she ran down the S.S. Baden, an enemy supply ship, in the North Atlantic, and finished her off with gunfire, but not before sustaining five casualties. Following repairs at Portsmouth and Rosyth, the Berwick remained employed in the Home Fleet for the remainder of the War and was actively engaged on escort duties to assorted Arctic convoys 1941-44.
