William Carpenter was born on 8 November 1842, and was appointed Assistant Surgeon on the Medical Staff on 30 September 1864. He was appointed to the 26th Foot in June 1865 and served with the 26th Cameronians in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868 (Medal). Doctor Carpenter died on 16 August 1874.
