Walter James Weeks was serving aboard H.M.S. Exmouth at the time of the Messina earthquake. He accidently drowned on 9 November 1917 whilst serving on the seaplane carrier Nairana. The son of George and Agnes Weeks of 17 Jane Street, Rise Carr, Darlington; his name is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. Sold with Messina Earthquake Medal forwarding slip named to Weeks, memorial scroll named to ‘Lg. Smn. Walter James Weeks, H.M.S. Nairana’ and copied service details..
