Walter James Weeks was serving aboard H.M.S. Exmouth at the time of the Messina earthquake. He accidently drowned on 9 November 1917 whilst serving on the seaplane carrier Nairana. The son of George and Agnes Weeks of 17 Jane Street, Rise Carr, Darlington; his name is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
