John McNeill was born in County Donegal and enlisted into the 65th Foot at Edinburgh on 18 February 1865, aged 18 years. He served with the regiment in Egypt and India, January 1874- July 1884 and was with them in the Sudan, 28 February - 28 March 1884, being present at the battles of El-Teb and Tamaai. He took his discharge from the service on 31 May 1891. Sold with copied service papers and roll extracts.
