Victoria (1837-1901), 1865/3, dies Jg, 9.53g/12h (Gouby B; Satin 55; F 51 [Sale, lot 33]; Adams 237; BMC 1666; S 3954). Minor spotting and rubbing in obverse field, several small die cracks on reverse and cabinet friction on shield, otherwise extremely fine with attractive surfaces and a hint of original colour, very rare (£300-400)

Normal cataloguing convention would place this coin chronologically in front of that in the previous lot, but Michael Gouby confirms that the first 1865 pennies were not necessarily struck using old 1863 altered dies
