Wirksworth Local Militia Derbyshire, a very fine and rare officer’s engraved oval shoulder belt plate in hall-marked silver (London 1808, maker’s mark ‘GH’), design shows the crown within an oval inscribed ‘Wirksworth L.M. Derbyshire’ and central county rose, one hook two studs to reverse, excellent condition £800-1000

The Wirksworth Volunteer Infantry converted to Local Militia in 1808; training for the force was suspended by Act of Parliament in 1814.
