James Edgar was born in Larrock, Port William, Wigtownshire on 30 November 1895. He attested for the 5th Battalion Scottish Rifles on 20 November 1914 and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 28 March 1915, serving there until 5 July 1916. Whilst serving at the front he was twice wounded, firstly on 24 February 1916 receiving a severe wound to the right hand, and secondly on 31 March 1916 receiving a slight wound to the shoulder. He was discharged, being appointed to a commission in the 5th Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers on 24 October 1916. He was later attached to the 2nd Battalion West India Regiment. He was demobilised on 17 June 1920. Sold with copied m.i.c. and a quantity of copied service papers.
