Frederick Thomas Harman was born in Hastings, Sussex on 10 August 1893. A painter by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy as a Painter on 23 August 1912. He was present at the battle of Jutland, serving aboard the armoured cruiser H.M.S. Warrior. Heavily damaged in the battle by German battlecruisers, the ship foundered whilst under tow on 1 June 1916. The ship’s casualties for the action amounted to 1 officer and 70 men killed and 2 officers and 25 men wounded. From October 1916 until February 1923 he served aboard the light battlecriuser Glorious. He attained the rank of Chief Painter in April 1927 and was awarded the L.S.& G.C. Medal in October that same year. Sold with copied service paper.
