Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Corunna (Joseph Simmons, 14th Foot) edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine £600-800

According to regimental musters, Joseph Simmons was taken prisoner at Corunna. The same source (see WO 97/358 ) also confirms that he was employed in the East Indies 1812-31, where he was present in the Nepal and Deccan campaigns and participated in the storming and capture of Bhurtpoor, for which latter services he was later awarded the Army of India Medal with “Bhurtpoor” clasp. Simmons, who suffered from scurvy, dysentery and protracted deafness during the course of his lengthy employment in the East Indies, was eventually discharged due to ‘disease contracted on duty ’.
