The Army of India medal to Major Thomas Armstrong, 16th Lancers, who was wounded at Bhurtpore

Armstrong, 16th Lancers) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, together with War Office forwarding letter and another from Messrs Cox & Co, also concerning the medal, and a portrait miniature on ivory of the recipient in uniform, this with water? damage, the medal nearly extremely fine £1200-1500

Thomas Armstrong was born at Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, on 25 February 1797, eldest son of Lieutenant-Colonel James Armstrong. He served with the 16th Lancers in India and was wounded by a musket ball from the wall of Bhurtpore on 10 December 1826. He eventually retired from the Army with the rank of Major and died in London on 28 August 1861.

The medal is also accompanied by four photographs of various items of his uniform, taken in 1926, before their presentation to Warwick Museum.
