The group of six miniature medals attributed to Major William Northey, D.S.O., Durham Light Infantry, who died of wounds in France in 1914, comprising Distinguished Service Order, V.R., gold and enamels; Q.S.A., 5 clasps, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek; K.S.A., 2 clasps; 1914 Star with bar; British War and Victory Medals, all mounted in contemporary glass-fronted opening display case by Spink & Son Ltd, Piccadilly, with name plate ‘Major William Northey, D.S.O.’, good very fine (6) £120-150

Major Northey served with the Durham Light Infantry in the Boer War, being twice mentioned in despatches and awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He died of wounds at the Base Hospital, Boulogne, on 22 October 1914.
