British War and Victory Medals (33804 Gnr., R.A.); together with a Gold Brooch, inscribed, ‘Presented to the Relatives of Gunner Tinkler, R.F.A., who gave his life in the Great War 1914-1919, by the inhabitants of Greatham’, 9ct. gold, hallmarks for Birmingham 1919, extremely fine (3) £140-180

John William Tinkler was born in Stockton and enlisted at Hartlepool. Serving in the R.F.A. he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 7 July 1915. He died of wounds on 15 August 1917 and was buried in the New Irish Farm Cemetery, Ieper, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs J. W. Tinkler of 1 Saltaire Terrace, Greatham, Stockton-on-Tees.
