Sold with two original commission documents. (a) appointing James Simpson, Gentleman Staff Quartermaster at the Depot at Dover with the British Swiss Legion, dated Windsor 4 April 1856 and signed by Queen Victoria and Lord Panmure (Secretary of State for War, 1855-58). (b) appointing James Simpson, Esquire (Paymaster, 41st Foot) to the Honorary rank of Captain, dated 12 September 1864 (both documents a little worn). Also sold with a silver ‘Prince of Wales’s feathers’ badge, 31 x 30mm.
