Miss Elizabeth Garland entered the France/Flanders theatre of war as a Nursing Sister on 4 September 1914. Formerly serving in the London Hospital, she served in the French Hospital at Laversine, 4 September - 6 November 1914, a hospital at Calais, 9 November 1914-9 March 1915, the Red Cross Hospital, Wimeraux (?), 6 April-18 December 1915, the Australian Volunteer Hospital, 9 December 1915- 4 January 1916, No.5 Hospital, Wimeraux (?), 31 January-21 February 1916 and a hospital at Le Tourquet, 22 February-16 June 1916. On sick leave during June/July 1916, she returned to England. Recovering from a general debility, she resumed her nursing work, serving in hospitals in Northampton, London and Whitechurch, Hampshire before resigning to take up other work in December 1916.
