No. 65 (Leicester) Company, 17th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry.

John Edward Hunt was born in Leicester and enlisted in the Imperial Yeomanry in February 1901, aged 21 years. He subsequently served in South Africa from March of the latter year until July 1902, but spent the last three months of this overseas engagement on hard labour, having been convicted by Court Martial for misdemeanours unknown that March. Hunt was discharged as ‘medically unfit’ at Shorncliffe soon after his return to the U.K.
