Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 1 clasp, Natal (Lt. H. N. Rowlatt, Leic. Regt.) one or two edge bruises, very fine £200-250

Henry Napier Rowlatt, who was born in May 1877, was first commissioned into the Middlesex Regiment direct from the Volunteer Force in May 1900, while serving in Natal, so presumably from a Leicestershire Battalion of the Volunteers. Advanced to Lieutenant in February 1901 and to Captain in January 1906, he was appointed Adjutant of the 4th Battalion, Essex Regiment in May 1912, in which post he was still serving on the outbreak of hostilities. He does not appear to have witnessed any further active service but was advanced to Major in the Middlesex Regiment in September 1915.
