M.S.M. London Gazette 16 August 1917. ‘... in recognition of valuable services rendered with the Armies in the Field during the present war’.

The R.E. Signal Service was founded in 1908. In India, various signal companies were formed shortly before the war; during it they became ‘squadrons’. The Indian Signal Squadron R.E. formed part of the Indian Cavalry Division in the Battle for Baghdad (25 February-10 March 1917).
