1914-15 Star (15986 Pte. A. Mulholland, W. York. R.) good very fine £40-60

Alexander Mulholland was killed in action on the Somme on 1 July 1916, aged 21 years, while participating in the 10th West Yorks’ assault on Fricourt. No other unit suffered more casualties than his Battalion on that fateful day, casualties that amounted to 22 officers and 688 other ranks - ‘except for Lieutenant Philip Howe and a handful of men, no one knew where the 10th West Yorks were - They had disappeared.’ A native of Harrogate, Mulholland was interred in the Fricourt New Military Cemetery.
