Estimate: £60–£80

First World War, another but struck in silver in a smaller format, 36mm, matt finish, Extremely fine (£60-80)

It is interesting that many medallists at this time and indeed in later years would produce their work in two quite distinct formats: one of a very large size practically always in bronze or other base metal ; the other a much smaller formats in silver or bronze. Perhaps the smaller size pieces were struck to appeal to traditional numismatists who would add them to their coin cabinets as they would commemorative and currency coins, while the larger pieces were probably destined for display.
