James III (1460-1488), Half-Rider, mm. cross fleury on obv. only, King galloping left with sword held in his left hand, lis below his oustretched arm, rev. crown with plain interior above shield over cross pattée, transposed legends, 2.42g/4h (SCBI 35, 733; B 1, fig. 620; S 5259). Nearly very fine, very rare (£2,500-3,000)

The retrograde horseman, combined with the transposition of the legends on the riders of type II and their attendant halves, are presumed the results of basic errors in die cutting for the type
