Hammer Price:

James III (1460-1488), Rider, type I, similar, saltire after legend, rev. crown with plain interior above shield on cross pattée, cross between lion’s paws, 4.91g/9h (cf. SCBI 35, 730; B 3/2, figs. 601/600; S 5256). Very fine, rare (£1,800-2,200)

Provenance:
R.W. Cochran-Patrick Collection, Sotheby Auction, 30 March 1936, lot 32
R.C. Lockett Collection, Glendining Auction, 26 October 1960, lot 855

Burns noted the cross between the lion’s paws on B 3, fig. 601 but not on the reverse of B 2, fig. 600; however, examination shows it to be present. This is not, therefore, a variety of B 3 as stated in the Lockett catalogue
