At least four officers with the name J. Murray received the British War and Victory Medals with the rank of Captain, including Captain James Murray, Durham Light Infantry, who was awarded the Military Cross in 1918.

Arthur George Lakin was born at Long Eaton, Derbyshire, and attested for the Yorkshire Regiment at Ilkeston. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 18 January 1918, and was killed in action on the first day of the German Spring Offensive on 21 March 1918. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France.
