Hammer Price:
£180

Ireland, Dublin University, c. 1807, a silver award medal by J. Kirk, N. Marchant and T. Wyon Jr, youthful bust of George III right, rev. Apollo, holding lyre, crowning a young student, 53mm (cf. BHM 112). Naming in exergue erased, some trifling marks, otherwise extremely fine and pleasantly toned (£100-150)

Obverse only illustrated. The obverse uses the die for the medal commemorating the installation of the Duke of Grafton as Chancellor of Cambridge University in 1768. Brown (BHM), in a muddled footnote to no.625, which apparently has this obverse, refers to Marchant making medals for L. Pingo and T. Wyon; the text should read ‘models’
