Roman, an ornate bronze crossbow brooch, 4th-5th century, oversized but lightweight hollow construction with a hinged pin, large onion-shaped knobs, horseshoe shaped bow and a flat foot finely decorated with running scroll motif and alternate segmented central panel all inlaid with niello. Intact with a green patina but repairs to both sides of the bow £200-£260
Provenance: Found near Hadrian’s Wall in the mid 1960s
