Roman, a silver ring, 3rd century, an oval hoop with sloping shoulders, bezel is raised and octagonal shaped with a carnelian intaglio engraved with an anchor between two dolphins, 2.5mm wide. Very fine £360-£400
Provenance: From a private collection. The two dolphins suspended from an anchor is a Christian symbol, with the dolphins representing a safe passage to heaven. A significant number of octagonal shape intaglios have been found at Gordian in Turkey
