Albert Arthur Copping, a Boy Warehouseman from Hoxne, Suffolk, was born in early 1894 and attested as a Boy, aged 14 years for the Grenadier Guards in March 1908. Appointed Drummer on 28 April 1908, he served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 13 August 1914 and was killed in action during the Battle of Aisne, between 14-16 September 1914 (also entitled to a clasp to his 1914 Star). One of thirteen Drummers killed whilst serving with the Grenadier Guards during the Great War, he has no known grave and is commemorated on La Ferte-Sous-Jourre Memorial, France. He is also commemorated in the Marquis De Rugivny’s Roll of Honour 1914-19.
