George Lionel Catherine was born in Depford, Kent. He served during the Great War with the Northumberland Fusiliers on the Western Front. Lance Corporal Catherine was killed in action on the Western Front, 9 April 1917. He was serving with the 24th (Service) Battalion (1st Tyneside Irish) - CWGC erroneously lists 9th Battalion. Lance Corporal Catherine is buried in the Bailleul Road East Cemetery, St. Laurent-Blangey, France.
