William Fowler was born in Sunderland, Co. Durham, in 1896 and attested there for the Royal Field Artillery. He served with ‘C’ Battery, 251st Brigade, during the Great War on the Western Front, and was wounded in action and taken Prisoner of War near to Chapelle d’Armentieres on 27 May 1917. He died of his wounds in captivity, and is buried in Berlin South Eastern Cemetery.
