The original flying log books (4) and other memorabilia appertaining to Wing Commander G. V. Fryer, O.B.E., A.F.C., the former covering the periods April 1935 to February 1937 (Egypt and U.K., with flights alongside instructors who later fought in the Battle of Britain, including F./Os G. E. T. Scrase and R. L. Glyde, both of whom were killed in action); March 1937 to May 1941 (U.K. and Canada, with flights instructing future Battle of Britain pilots, including P./Os N. G. Langham-Hobart, K. R. Lusty, S. B. Parnall, G. H. E. Welford and D. Stein); June 1941 to November 1945 (Canada and U.K.) and December 1945 to October 1959 (U.S.A. and U.K.); and the associated archive comprising a wide variety of documentation, ranging from his commission warrant for Acting Pilot Officer, dated 24 May 1935, via pilot’s operational manuals for the B29 Superfortress, Meteor 7 and Mitchell III, to appraisals and surveys from Fryer’s time at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, many of them marked “Secret”; and much besides, from a commemorative shield for the Wunstorf-Berlin Air Lift Combined Operation 1948-49 down to three photographs taken on an “operational flight” over Heligoland in December 1950, the whole immaculately ordered and collated in assorted files, with useful accompanying notes, generally in excellent condition £300-400
