A Civil C.B. group of eight awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel Lancelot Storr, 54th Sikhs (Frontier Force), on the Personal Staff of Lord Kitchener, 1914-16, and later Assistant Secretary to the War Cabinet

The Most Honourable Order of The Bath, C.B. (Civil) Companion’s neck badge, silver-gilt, hallmarked London 1918, complete with neck cravat in its Garrard & Co case of issue; India General Service 1895-1902, 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98 (Lieut., 4th Sikh Infy.); China 1900, no clasp (Lieut., 4th Sikh Infy.); British War and Victory Medals (Lt. Col.); Delhi Durbar 1911, these last five mounted Court style as worn; Coronation 1937, in card box of issue with related miniature; Legion of Honour, 5th class breast badge, silver, gilt and enamels, in case of issue, together with mounted group of seven miniatures (less Coronation 1937) and various ribbon bars, good very fine or better (16) £600-700

Charles Lancelot Storr was born on 18 January 1874, and educated at Harrow (classical scholar) and R.M.C. Sandhurst (Honours). He was first commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Dorsetshire Regiment on 30 August 1893, was appointed to the Indian Army in January 1895 and posted to the 4th Sikhs, with whom he served in Tirah 1897-98, including operations in the Bazar Valley, 25-30 December 1897 (Medal with 2 clasps), and in China 1900-01 (Medal). Appointed A.D.C. to Commander-in-Chief, India, March 1902, and promoted to Captain in August 1902; Graduated, Indian Staff College, 1907; Brigade Major, Jullundur, 1908-10; and Sirhind Brigade, 1911-12; Assistant Military Secretary to Commander-in-Chief, India, 1912; took Course of Economics and Political Science, London, 1912.

European War 1914-18, including operations in France and Belgium; and in Greek Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, European Turkey and the Islands of the Aegean Sea; D.A.A.G. War Office, 1914-16, while also attached to Personal Staff of Lord Kitchener; appointed 2nd in command, 54th Sikhs, February 1916; Assistant Secretary, Committee of Imperial Defence, 1916-21; and to the War Cabinet, December 1916; and to the Imperial War Cabinet, at sessions held in 1917-18; was the first Secretary of the British Section, Supreme War Council, November 1917 to May 1918; retired from the Army 1921. For his services during the war he was appointed a Companion of the Bath in January 1919, and had been appointed a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1917.

Lancelot Storr subsequently served as Secretary to the Shadow Cabinet of the Unionist Party, 1924; Ecclesiastical Secretary to the Lord Chancellor, 1924-28; and as Personal Assistant to the Chairman of the Unionist Party Organisation, 1929-30. Lieutenant-Colonel Storr died on 7 August 1944.
