Able Seaman Brennan received a shell wound to his head and right eye at Tientsin on 9 July 1900. He also served in South Africa in Terribles Naval Brigade with the No. 1 4.7-inch gun’s crew under Lieutenant England, and is entitled to the Q.S.A. medal with clasps for Tugela Heights and Relief of Ladysmith. The rolls note that he was issued with duplicate of the China medal.
