Fateh Khan entered the service in October 1889 and served on the North West Frontier of India 1897-98, including the engagement near Shabkadr on 9 August 1897 (Medal with clasp). He was promoted to Jemadar on 1 March 1899, to Ressaidar on 1 November 1903, and to Risaldar on 1 March 1908. He is shown as Rissaldar-Major in the Indian Army List of 1918 but no date of appointment is given. He does not appear to be entitled to the clasp for Waziristan.
