Wilfrid Benjamin Cox was mentioned in despatches for his services aboard the destroyer H.M.S. Redoubt (Seedie’s and London Gazette 1 January 1946 refer). It may be concluded, therefore, that this distinction recognised his deeds during the period that she won a Battle Honour for “Burma 1945”, a period that witnessed her in action during the course of inshore operations and at the relevant landings. Among the Redoubt’s more notable achievements was her contribution to the destruction of 11 enemy vessels on 30 April 1945, some of whose survivors refused assistance and killed themselves; sold with original M.I.D. certificate.
