Harold William Ridley was born at King’s Norton in May 1899 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in July 1914. He subsequently witnessed active service aboard the cruiser H.M.S. Royalist from March 1915 until the end of hostilities, including the Battle of Jutland. Ridley, who was also entitled to the 1914-15 Star, was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in March 1934.
