D.C.M. London Gazette 18 February 1919 ‘In the attack on Floursies on the 8th November 1918, he assumed command of the section and led with marked gallantry. Though wounded he carried on until the objective had been reached, directing the fire of his section with great coolness under heavy fire. He remained at duty until he eventually fainted from loss of blood.’
Joseph Starkie also served at Suvla Bay, Galklipoli from 9 August 1915.
