Arthur Samuel Lewis was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire and enlisted at Manchester. Initially with the East Lancashire Regiment, he was serving with the 55th Field company Royal Engineers when he was killed in action on 11 September 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
