Ex J. B. Hayward Collection, Spink 7 November 1995.

R.N.L.I. Siver Medals awarded to Coxswain Daniel Evans, Poolbeg Lifeboat and Chief Officer Samuel Carr, H.M. Coast Guard, Ring’d End on 5 January 1882 and to Coxswain H. Williams, Kingstown Lifeboat and Lieutenant John Alexander Lindsay, Royal Artillery on 1 December 1881.

‘22 October 1881 and 31 October 1881: During a heavy south-easterly gale on 22 October, the St. John, New Brunswick ship
George H. Oulton stranded in heavy surf on the North Bull, off Clontarf, Co. Dublin, Ireland. The Poolbeg lifeboat put out under the Coxswain and, with volunteers Mr Carr and Lieutenant Lindsay aboard, proceeded to the wreck, but her services were not required - the Howth lifeboat had rescued the 16 man crew. On 31 October, the Poolbeg lifeboat rescued 11 riggers engaged in salvage from the same wreck- the Kingstown lifeboat also rendered assistance. Recognition was also given to Mr Williams for long and gallant services.’
