Sydney Dolton was born in Moulton Seas End and enlisted at Spalding, Lincolnshire. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 23 October 1916, aged 20 years.. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
